Introducing Viora IPL Hair Removal
Viora IPL is the premier choice for laser hair removal at our Hoover location. This advanced intense pulsed light treatment safely removes unwanted hair, effectively halting new growth and providing visible hair reduction.
Unlike traditional methods that utilize a single, concentrated laser beam, Viora delivers a broad spectrum of light in scattered pulses. This precise approach minimizes unnecessary damage to the surrounding skin, preserving its health and longevity.
IPL targets the melanin, or pigment, within the hair shaft. As the hair absorbs these pulses, it converts the light into thermal energy, which travels down the shaft to the follicle. This heat “cauterizes” the pore, preventing future hair growth.
Viora features adjustable settings that allow our experts to customize the pulse duration and intensity for each client. Meaning, we can fine-tune the device to safely address unwanted hair on clients with medium to deep complexions. This makes laser hair removal near Hoover accessible to those who were previously unable to take advantage of it.

Who Is the Ideal Candidate for Viora IPL?
We recommend Viora IPL hair removal for clients tired of waxing, tweezing, or threading unwanted hair on their face, arms, chest, abdomen, and legs. Viora even has the precision required to treat the bikini line and Brazilian areas.
Patient safety and comfort are a priority at Smart Skin Med Spa, and we never suggest a treatment that could compromise your skin’s enduring health. For these reasons, we do not recommend IPL or laser hair removal near Hoover to patients who meet 1 or more of the following contraindications:
- Currently pregnant or actively breastfeeding
- Untreated hormonal conditions, such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
- Active rash, infection, or open wound near the treatment area
- History of keloid or hypertrophic scarring
- Extensive sun exposure, sunburns, or tanning (in the previous 2 to 4 weeks)
- Taking photosensitizing medications, such as Accutane (in the past 6 months)
While our experts at Smart Skin can treat patients with tattoos or permanent makeup, they are unable to address hair directly above the ink. IPL is attracted to pigment, and won’t be able to differentiate between your tattoo and a hair follicle. By working around the tattoo, we minimize the risk of superficial burns or damaging your body art.

Making Smart Choices for Your Skin Before & After Treatment
Choosing Viora IPL hair removal is a smart choice for your skin. Protect your investment and skin health by taking care of your skin before and after treatment.

Pre-Care Guidelines
Achieving optimal results from laser hair removal begins before your appointment. To get the most out of our advanced Viora technology, we recommend patients follow these pre-care guidelines:
- Refrain from waxing, plucking, or threading targeted hair at least 4 weeks before. These removal techniques completely remove the hair bulb, which absorbs light energy and transforms it into heat, damaging the follicle. Removing the bulb hinders our laser hair removal treatment near Hoover, leading to an ineffective session.
- Avoid extensive sun exposure, sunburns, and self-tanning products for at least 2 weeks before your appointment. IPL is attracted to pigment and may target skin pigmentation instead of the hair shaft, leading to blisters, superficial burns, or hyperpigmentation.
- Avoid using exfoliating skincare products for at least 1 week before treatment. These products thin the uppermost layers of skin, increasing the risk of burns and irritation. Similarly, do not take photosensitizing medications, including Accutane, until approved by your provider, as they also increase the risk of unnecessary damage.
- Shave the treatment area 12 to 24 hours before your session. The device targets pigment, and long hair can increase the risk of superficial burns and client discomfort. Shaving shortens the hair shaft, allowing Viora to target the roots more accurately. Shaving immediately before your appointment irritates the skin; allowing the skin time to “settle” improves your experience.
Arrive at your appointment with skin free of lotions, oils, deodorant (particularly those containing aluminum or zinc), or makeup. While our Smart Skin experts thoroughly cleanse the treatment area before beginning laser hair removal near Hoover, wearing these products can extend your total session length.
Post-Care Recommendations
Skin is especially sensitive after laser hair removal. To protect it as it heals and support the best results, we ask clients to follow these post-care instructions after leaving our office:
- Expect skin to appear red or feel hot to the touch for the first 2 to 24 hours after your appointment. If you experience discomfort, we recommend applying aloe vera or a cold compress. Avoid oil-based products, which can “trap” heat, and don’t apply ice directly to the skin.
- Wear loose cotton clothing for the first 24 hours. Form-fitting clothes, such as jeans or leggings, create friction that can lead to folliculitis (acne-like bumps). Light fabrics allow the skin to breathe and reduce the risk of irritation.
- Avoid exposure to high heat, such as hot showers, saunas, or intense exercise, for 24 to 48 hours. IPL hair removal is a heat-based treatment, so additional heat can aggravate the skin and increase the risk of blistering or folliculitis.
- Do not scrub or exfoliate the treated area for at least 1 week after treatment. Let the treated hair shed naturally to minimize the risk of ingrowns. After the initial 7 days, you can gently wipe the skin with a washcloth in the shower; do not pluck or tweeze the hair.
- Apply SPF 30+ sunscreen every 2 hours and wear a hat when going outdoors. Your skin is especially light-sensitive after a session of laser hair removal near Hoover, and exposing your skin to UV radiation can lead to hyperpigmentation.

Frequently Asked Questions About Viora IPL
At Smart Skin, we love that our patients ask questions about our aesthetics technology. We want you to feel fully confident in your skin and our expertise. That’s why we’re answering the top three questions we receive about laser hair removal near Hoover.
1. Is Viora IPL painful?
No, treatment with Viora should not be painful. While everyone experiences pain differently, most Smart Skin clients do not consider hair reduction to be uncomfortable.
Treatment areas such as the arms, legs, or abdomen should be the most tolerable. Delicate areas, such as the bikini line, upper lip, or underarms, may be more sensitive.
Viora uses integrated contact cooling to minimize discomfort. The tip of the handpiece gently numbs the skin before each light pulse, maintaining a cooler skin temperature to prevent damage caused by the device’s heat-based approach. If you experience discomfort during your appointment, notify your provider so they can adjust the laser’s intensity.
2. How soon can I expect to see results?
Most clients notice changes to their hair density around 2 weeks after their initial appointment. This is when the treated hair begins to shed; while it may appear like the hair is growing, it’s actually being pushed out of the follicle.
After 2 to 3 sessions, any hair that grows back is thinner and lighter than before treatment. Density should decline, and hair may grow in “patches,” with some areas completely free of hair. Most patients achieve optimal results after 6 to 8 sessions.
3. Is Viora hair removal permanent?
No, laser hair removal is not permanent. At Smart Skin Med Spa, we prefer to use the term “hair reduction,” which more accurately describes the results our patients can expect. Viora significantly reduces hair growth, and any remaining hair grows back much finer, thinner, and slower.
However, as the body repairs the damaged follicles, hair production restarts. Certain areas—specifically the face and underarms in women—tend to grow back faster than the arms, legs, or abdomen due to hormonal influences.
To maintain your results, we recommend scheduling maintenance appointments 1 to 2 times per year. These follow-ups address any dormant hair follicles that may have reactivated since your initial treatment series.
